Detectives search for shooter who killed man outside daycare
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (WSVN) -- Detectives are trying to solve a senseless murder that occurred Tuesday evening.
Miami-Dade police said 49-year-old Michael Garland went for his nightly exercise Tuesday, in the area of Northwest 152nd Terrace and 18th Avenue, in front of Rainbow Park Elementary School and a daycare center, when someone shot and killed him. "He was jogging and walking in the area, exercising, where, for no apparent reason, somebody shot him," Detective Juan Segovia said.
On Wednesday, investigators went door to door passing out fliers, doing whatever they can to solve the murder of 49-year-old Garland.
His family and friends said he was a decent, kind man. "My brother was a good guy. It was shocking because my brother was quiet, he didn't mess with anybody that was in any type of trouble," John Gary Howard said.
Authorities believe Barzeal Jones, the victim's friend, was most likely the last person to talk to him alive. "Yeah, I saw him last night when I was riding my bike, and I spoke to him for a short period of time. I said, 'What's up, Mike?' and he said, 'What's up?' and then he went along his way, and I went along my way, and I never thought that this would be happening today."
Authorities hope they can get a witness from a nearby basketball court who might have heard or saw something.
