Man loses his life after canoe capsizes

SOUTH MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Authorities said a man lost his life when his canoe capsized at Biscayne National Park near Southwest 97th Avenue and 328th Street.

Officials said three others on board the boat are lucky to be alive after it tipped over on Sunday.

Authorities said the victim panicked and swam out into the sea instead of toward the shore.

Witnesses said rescue crews tried to save the man but to no avail. "We're waiting like 30 minutes until they finally get him out, and then, so, they bring the guy here, and he's knocked completely unconscious," said Xavier Ramos.

The man was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
