Police arrest tip jar robbers after following credit card charge

DAVIE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police arrest two suspected crooks after they were tipped off by a credit card.

Surveillance showed a man and woman distracting employees before reaching for a tip jar filled with cash at an ice cream shop.

Investigators were able to track them down because they paid for some sweet treats with their credit card, and an employee at the store also wrote down their license tag as they sped away.

Andrew McKnight was the employee who watched them getaway with the jar. To make the crime more disturbing, he said, they took a baby on their crime spree. "The first girl left, who stole all the money," McKnight said, "she left and the gentleman who was pushing the baby, he left after her, but the young boy, or the man, 20 years of age, he stayed to pay for the smoothies."

Nineteen-year-old Joshua Titton and 20-year-old Gillian Carter now face grand theft charges.

Police said one of the suspects confessed to the crime.
