Habitat launches building blitz

MIAMI (WSVN) -- A major charity is going on a local building blitz.
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami kicked off its annual event Monday with more than 2,000 volunteers flocking to Liberty City for the construction event.
"Well, it's one good opportunity to help the community," said Minnie Irizarri, one of the volunteers, "and I'm representing Publix, and this is like my ... fourth year doing this, and everytime we come out here, we do a little bit of different things. Sometimes we paint, sometimes we do this, sometimes windows-- everything. You name it."
Corporate sponsors are also taking part-- including WSVN.
Habitat is focusing on the Northwest 18th Avenue corridor-- also known as "Broadway." The goal is to build 10 homes in that area in the next 10 days.
