MIAMI (WSVN) -- A first-time homeowner is putting in sweat equity as an organization kicked off a building blitz.

The construction project is on the fast track. Habitat for Humanity plans to build close to a house a day for the next two weeks.

Ten new homes is the goal of this year's Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami Blitz Build.

Volunteers have until Feb. 23 to achieve it.

The future homeowners also put in some sweat equity of their own. "It's a beautiful story," said Habitat CEO Mario Artecona, "that the people who will live in these homes built them and bought them and they worked alongside the hundreds of volunteers to make their homeownership dream come true."

When completed, the community will have 45 houses and will be known as Habitat Landing. The two-week accelerated construction project is putting up 10 of those homes right away. "Right now, we are building my house," said Anjolee Vargas, "and I'm very excited there's a lot of people helping. I feel blessed, and I'm very privileged to have this opportunity."

Channel 7 is a proud sponsor of Habitat for Humanity and has made it possible for Anjolee Vargas and the other families to call Habitat Landings home.

While the Blitz Build will last just two weeks, it will ultimately take three years to complete the new community.
