Police search for suspected robbers who fled crash scene
PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police have been forced to lock down a school as they search for two robbery suspects who fled after crashing their car following a pursuit.
Broward Sheriff's deputies had to place Pembroke Pines Charter Middle School, which is located nearby, under lock down late Thursday morning to protect those inside while they search for the two male suspects.
The chase ended with a crash on Sheridan Street, just west of Flamingo. Two suspects fled the disabled Ford Taurus on foot, while police caught one person at the scene.
BSO first responded to 11926 SW 54 St. in Cooper City regarding a suspicious incident, possibly an attempted residential burglary. The 911 call came in about 10:36 a.m.
BSO had to set up a perimeter in Pembroke Pines and have brought K-9 units to the scene to assist in the search while a BSO helicopter pilot searched the area by air.
Authorities had to close down Sheridan due to the crash and the search, and motorists are advised to use an alternate route.
