Minneapolis SWAT officer charged with assault
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- A Minneapolis SWAT officer has been charged with assault for allegedly punching a man in the head at a bar and seriously injuring him.
According to the complaint, Sgt. David Clifford told police he was sitting near the victim's table and took offense to language being used. Anoka County Sheriff's Cmdr. Paul Sommer said the victim was on a cellphone.
Clifford allegedly went to talk to the man and punched him.
Sommer says video surveillance shows the man fell backward and may have hit his head.
Sommer says that, as of Monday morning, the man was on life support after two brain surgeries.
The name of Clifford's attorney was not immediately available. The Anoka County Jail does not accept messages for inmates.
