Missing Colorado girl still missing
WESTMINSTER, Colo. She's been gone for five days. With barely any clues into her disappearance. Tonight, a glimmer of hope as calls come pouring into the tip lines.
"I shut the door," said the girl's mother, Sarah Ridgeway. "That's the last time I saw her. I want her to come walking through that door."
Minutes turn into hours. Hours, into days. And 10-year-old Jessica Ridgeway is still no where to be found.
The Colorado girl disappeared Friday, when she left home to meet friends at a park for the walk to school. She never made it.
"You get the pit in your stomach that you don't want any parent to ever experience in their whole entire life and you know your child has just been taken."
The girl's mother and loved ones gathered in prayer Tuesday night, trying to shed a light on the young girl's disappearance.
Now, reports out of Maine have said that a girl matching her description has been spotted in a pair of small towns.
"We continue to look for that, said Trevor Materasso of the
Westminster Police Department. "For assistance to continue that tip line. That tip line has fielded over 650 phone calls."
Meanwhile, hundreds of volunteers searched neighborhoods nearby for clues.
The girl's backpack was found several miles from her home.
"I don't know what to do," said the girl's father, Jeremiah Bryant. "You know, I just want to find my daughter. I just want her back home. With all the people there it's still too quiet, it's way too quiet. It needs to be lively and happy again. The bright voice of my little girl. She needs to come home."
Police said the girl's family has been cooperative, but wouldn't discuss whether they have been ruled out as being involved with the disappearance.
"When I sat down with the FBI," said Bryant. "They asked me if I thought she did it. I told them there's no way that I would ever believe that. I mean, just the same as she would tell them that I wouldn't do something like that."
