BELLEROSE TERRACE, N.Y. (AP) -- Authorities say a suspect has been captured in the cold-blooded slayings of a New York police officer and another victim on a highway near the Belmont racetrack.

Darrell Fuller was arrested on Tuesday in Queens. Police say he had suffered what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Fuller is suspected of shooting and killing Nassau County Officer Arthur Lopez after police stopped his car on Long Island near the Queens border.

Police say after pulling over Fuller left his vehicle and shot Lopez once in the chest. They say he later shot and killed another motorist during a carjacking.

The shootings touched off a massive manhunt.

Authorities say the 33-year-old Fuller was out on parole after serving time for attempted murder. He's in custody and can't be reached for comment.
