Mormon-affiliated university lifts YouTube ban
PROVO, Utah -- Conservative Brigham Young University says there's a place for YouTube on campus.
A spokeswoman says the Mormon school where students agree to live a chaste and virtuous life has reversed a three-year-old ban on the popular video-sharing site.
Spokeswoman Carri Jenkins says administrators decided there's an increasing amount of educational material on YouTube.
BYU added YouTube to the list of Web sites blocked by campus online filters in 2006. At the time, administrators felt there was too much content that could violate the school's strict standards.
Students and faculty agree to follow the school's honor code, that includes provisions against pornography, alcohol, tobacco and caffeine use, among other things.
BYU has also launched its own new Web site which explains the school's Internet guidelines.
