Scott suspends Madison County commissioner

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- Florida Gov. Rick Scott has suspended a Madison County commissioner who is facing official misconduct and grand theft charges.

Scott signed the suspension order Thursday for Commissioner Alfred Junior Martin.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement on Wednesday obtained an arrest warrant for Martin. He is accused of failing to deposit checks from Madison County totaling about $1,000 to reimburse the Madison Volunteer Fire Department for expenses related to city of Madison employee luncheons in 2009 and 2010.

Martin was arrested and released on a $10,000 bond on Wednesday. No one answered the phone at his home Thursday.

Madison County is about 50 miles east of Tallahassee.
