McGowan leads No. 22 Miami past Stetson, 79-65
CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) -- Cyrus McGowan scored 14 points to lift No. 22 Miami to a 79-65 win over instate rival Stetson on Saturday.
Dwayne Collins and Jack McClinton added 12 points each for the Hurricanes (4-1), while James Dews had 10.
Stetson guard Garfield Blair -- whose younger sister, Briyana, plays for the Hurricanes -- led the Hatters (2-3) with 25 points. Kris Thomas added 14 points and Sheldon Oliver scored 11.
McClinton, Miami's top scorer, scored all of his points in the second half. He also passed Kevin Presto for 22nd place on Miami's career scoring list with 1,164 points.
The Hurricanes opened their season with their highest preseason ranking ever at No. 17, but dropped five spots after losing to No. 2 Connecticut at the Paradise Jam in the U.S. Virgin Islands on Sunday.
