Marlins SS Ramirez still out for Florida

Marlins SS Ramirez still out for Florida

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- All-Star shortstop Hanley Ramirez is still sidelined for Florida.

Ramirez is scheduled to start for the National League in next week's All-Star game in St. Louis. But he missed his fourth straight game Wednesday with a right hip flexor.

The Marlins aren't yet talking about placing him on the disabled list. He will be re-evaluated Thursday in Arizona, manager Fredi Gonzalez said after Wednesday's 7-0 win against San Francisco.

Ramirez hopes to play Thursday at Arizona, thinking the heat might help him get loose. He told Gonzalez he was available as a defensive replacement Wednesday.

Florida called up shortstop Andy Gonzalez from Triple-A New Orleans to provide some added depth.

The Marlins also optioned outfielder Alejandro De Aza to New Orleans and cleared room on the 40-man roster by transferring infielder-outfielder Alfredo Amezaga to the 60-day disabled list. After the game, the Marlins announced Amezaga will undergo microfracture surgery on his left knee on Monday and will miss the remainder of the season.

In another move after the game, right-handed reliever Tim Wood was optioned to New Orleans to make room for Kiko Calero's return from the DL on Thursday.
