Former NFL player charged with domestic battery

DADE CITY, Fla. (AP) -- Former NFL linebacker Darren Hambrick has been charged with domestic battery.

Hambrick, whose legal name is Darren Dewayne Grant, was arrested Saturday by the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.

The victim told deputies Hambrick raped and assaulted her, choking and striking her in the head and face about 15 times. The woman said he took away her phones when she tried to call 911 and chased her when she attempted to flee.

The sheriff's office said Hambrick and the victim are known to one another, but wouldn't comment on the nature of their relationship. Hambrick was charged with involuntary sexual battery and false imprisonment, among other charges.

Messages left at two phone numbers listed for him in sheriff's records were not immediately returned.
