White hot Heat swag flies off shelves
MIAMI (WSVN) -- Hours before the Miami Heat takes the court, on the brink of the NBA title, fans were getting their hands on white hot swag in show of support.
The Sports Authority in Midtown Miami only had a few Miami Heat jerseys left on Thursday afternoon after fans flooded in to swipe up all of the gear in stock.
With the Heat potentially just hours away from clinching their second-ever NBA Championship, and fans in the store are ready. "He woke up this morning, and the first thing he said was, 'We're winners. We're gonna win!'" said Laura Krivak, a Heat fan, about her young son.
"I think we're going to win because I think we got in the psyche a little bit of that team," said Heat fan Stan Eahrler.
Meanwhile, Heat merchandise is selling out across South Florida. The Eastern Conference Champions T-shirt sold as fast as they could print them.
Boxes full of championship T-shirts are piled up in the stock room at Sports Authority but could not be shown. It will be up to the Heat as to when fans can get their hands on them. "It'll be out as soon as the championship game is over, hopefully today," said Chris Young, manager of Sports Authority. "With a win, we'll stay open till about midnight tonight."
Local printing companies will be busy if the Heat win, with fans wanting to purchase NBA Championship gear after the game. "As soon as they win, we flick the switches on, and we will be printing approximately 3,000 shirts an hour," said Michael Travis of Miami Tees. "If the Heat wins, we should have them by 5 in the morning."
The Sports Authority in Midtown will remain open late for fans to rush in and buy the championship swag and all Sports Authority stores will open at 6 a.m. on Friday morning after a Heat win.
Dicks Sporting Goods in Broward will also be open early to sell the goods.
