Surfers hope Irene brings summer's biggest waves

SATELLITE BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- Though Hurricane Irene has some worried they could be in harm's way, surfers along Florida's Atlantic coast are anticipating what could be the biggest waves of the summer.

Workers at MTB Surf Emporium in Indialantic tell a Florida publication they expect to sell more surfboards, leashes, wax and repair kits. Twenty-one-year-old salesman Van Vonderen says he's "stoked" and is hoping the storm gains strength and brings a high swell with it.

At Catalyst, a Melbourne surf shop, manager Eric Kroungold says he's excited, too, and hoping for high surf. But he's also worried about his Indialantic home.
