Tropical storm warning lifted for Bermuda

Posted: 08/28/11 at 9:00 pm EDT

MIAMI (AP) -- Forecasters say a tropical storm warning has been lifted for Bermuda after Jose passed to the west of the British territory and headed north over the Atlantic Ocean.

The National Hurricane Center in Miami says Jose was about 125 miles north-northwest of Bermuda on Sunday evening with maximum sustained winds of about 45 mph. The storm was moving north at 20 mph.

Jose is not expected to change much in strength Sunday and should weaken on Monday.

Forecasters say that although tropical storm conditions have subsided in Bermuda after Jose caused some storm surge in western parts of the isolated island chain, the storm may produce squalls producing gusty winds and heavy rains through Monday.
