SANAA, Yemen (AP) -- Yemeni government and opposition officials have accused each other of firing artillery shells in a divided section of the capital.

An Interior Ministry spokesman says followers of anti-government tribal leader Sheik Sadeq al-Ahmar fired on loyalist positions in the northern Hassaba district of Sanaa on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, with one shell striking the Cabinet building.

He spoke on condition of anonymity according to regulations.

Al-Ahmar's spokesman Abdel-Qawi al-Qaisi denies that the opposition had targeted the Cabinet, and says several shells fired from the Interior Ministry exploded near the tribal leader's home in a nearby neighborhood.

Neither side gave figures for casualties.
