MEDAN, Indonesia (AP) -- Indonesians are calling for the producer of an anti-Islam film to be punished by the United States.

Protesters torched an American flag and tires Tuesday outside the U.S. Consulate in the country's third largest city of Medan. Some of the 200 people gathered unfurled banners saying, "Go to hell America" and demanded Washington punish the makers of "Innocence of Muslims."

About 100 students protesting in Makassar city in central Indonesia called for the death penalty against filmmaker Nakoula Bassely Nakoula. American leaders have widely denounced his message, but U.S. free-speech rights mean his film is not considered a crime there.

The U.S. Embassy in Jakarta informed Americans that its security was being increased Tuesday. Some protesters had hurled rocks and Molotov cocktails outside the mission Monday.
