Israeli president talks Iran at parliament opening

JERUSALEM (AP) -- Israel's president says he trusts President Barack Obama when it comes to stopping Iran's nuclear program.

Shimon Peres launched the new Israeli parliament's opening session Tuesday with praise for Obama, as well as a veiled message to Israel's incoming government not to act alone.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned that the world has until this summer at the latest to keep Iran from building a bomb. He's hinted Israel could attack unilaterally if all other efforts fail.

Netanyahu has clashed with Obama and his own top security officials on the issue.

Peres told parliament the United States is "able to put an end to the Iranian threat, and I believe the president of the United States is determined to do so."

Israel considers a nuclear-armed Iran an existential threat.
