SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) — Police claimed they were forced to fatally fire at a suspect accused of stabbing three women before authorities arrived on the scene, Sunday.

Miami-Dade Police said, just after 5 p.m., they received several 911 calls about a stabbing on Graham Drive between Monroe Street and Lincoln Boulevard in Southwest Miami-Dade. “Officers arrived at the scene, [the] subject attempted to flee, at which time a confrontation ensued,” said Miami-Dade Police Lt. John Jenkins. “The subject was struck and pronounced deceased at the scene.”

Police said one officer discharged his firearm at the subject, but it is unclear how many shots were fired.

Nearby resident Tony Campbell called the police-involved shooting “very surprising.” “Well, this is surprising for Father’s Day to see something like this,” he said.

Police later discovered the subject had stabbed three women. Investigators said all three victims were related to him, but it has not been disclosed whether they were acquaintances or family members. “I don’t know the relationship,” said Jenkins. “I just know that they are related.”

The victims were airlifted to Kendall Regional Medical Center in unknown condition. “Well, I daresay him stabbing his family like this is crazy,” said an onlooker.

Police said the officer who opened fire on the suspect is expected to be OK.

Residents of the Richmond Heights neighborhood where the shooting took place are numbed. “It’s just shocking,” said a teenager.

Monday, all three women remain hospitalized.
