Savvy Shopping

Posted: Updated:

WSVN -- Auta Davis is a savvy shopper. She knows she can ask her butcher to break down big meat portions to suit her small family.

Auta Davis: "It saves me money plus you get exactly what you want."

Getting the best value for your money starts with getting to know store managers and finding out what they can do for you.

Kimberly Jaeger: "Let them be your resource, let them help enhance your shopping experience. They are the experts, they have a wealth of knowledge to share."

They'll place special orders and let you know when certain deliveries take place so you always get what you want super fresh. Also, don't be afraid to ask for samples.

Publix will always let you taste fresh produce.

Lynne Rogers: "I had never known that you could do that. Sometimes there's a fruit that you've never tried before and you just are curious what it tastes like before you pay good money for it."

Shopping for produce in season can also save you big.

Vanessa Hassele: "Sometimes it can be up to 50 percent less depending on where it's coming from and what the product is."

And saving isn't always just about money. Many stores have services that will save you time.

Kimberly Jaeger: "Get to know your fishmonger get to know your butcher. A lot of people don't know that not only will we clean your seafood for you, but we'll also season it, marinate it and even steam it for you for free."

So the next time you head to the grocery store say hello to your grocer it could end up saving you a bundle.

Auta Davis: "I find it really nice to know the people that serve you cause then they'll take the time to give you tips and advice."

Lynn Martinez: "And it goes without saying make sure you read through those weekly ads. You can find mangers specials and buy one get one free offers for extra savings."
