Turn Hobbies into Cash

Posted: Updated:

WSVN -- Peg Wigger has been making quilts for more than 20.

It started as a hobby- but now she makes money doing what she loves.

Peg Wigger: "I'm a part-time quilter and I do it when I want to, but I can make about $5,000 plus a year."

Peg is quilting a full-sized bedspread in her converted craft room.

She'll work on it off and on over the course of a few days and charge the client about $200.

Peg Wigger: "I found out that some ladies didn't like the actual quilting and I said 'Oh, maybe I could make money there and my business slowly grew from there.'"

Peg gets all of her orders through word of mouth, but many crafty people are going online to sell their wares.

ETSY Artfire and Supermarket HQ are sites that market to the masses whether it's art vintage clothes or hand-made jewelry.

Peg Wigger: "It pays for my hobby and traveling and you know going out to dinner, that's my play money."

It's all about taking that hobby to the next level.

Peg Wigger: "Oh, I think it's great and as long as you keep it small and it doesn't become work I think you can make money at I and enjoy what you're doing."

LYNN MARTINEZ: "And using social media like Facebook can also help you market crafts."
