Wine and Food

WSVN -- You don't have to wait all year for a good wine and food festival at the new "Blue Piano Bar" in the blossoming 'buena Vista' area of Miami.

Aniece Meinhold, Blue Piano: "Our main focus is great food and great wine."

Every Wednesday night for just $15 you can sit back and listen to some great, live music and sample six to eight different wines. Just don't expect the usual suspects of grapes.

Aniece Meinhold: "Everywhere you go, you find Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio. I really try to steer away from those grapes. So, I pour a grape from Austria or I have a grape from Alsace."

This wine tasting is very flexible, you get to taste the wine your way.

Aniece Meinhold: "We can either do one glass and go one by one or we can do three glass at a time. If you let me, I'll come out and sit with you, and we'll taste together, you know, I'll guide you through it."

When it comes to food, the small plates menu has some unusual dishes, which actually bring out the best in the wine.

Aniece Meinhold: "We have a little guy called the MCLovin, it's a breakfast sandwich, with spinach sausage, a little bit of chorizo, creme, pickle, onion and a fried."

Or how about soft quail eggs with truffle oil and crostini, weird right? But not with the right wine!

Debora Benjamin: "It was just perfectly paired and matched. Really delicious!"

For those who only want to taste wine there are plenty of chances to sip and swirl at the "Best Cellar" in Ft. Lauderdale.

The owner of the Wilton Manors Boutique Wine Shop hosts two daily tastings. Every Wednesday through Saturday.

Richard Stetler, Owner, Best Cellar: "It's the only sit down daily educational wine tasting in South Florida you get to come in and try it before you buy it, you get to taste anywhere from 12 to 20 wines."

And there's no time limit, meaning the tastings often last until the wee hours of the morning.

Frank Baroudi, Winemaker: "It's a natural progression. The happier we are the more bottles that get opened."

Andrea Larson: "Richard always has extra wines, which suppliers drop off, which he wants us to taste. Those are his bonus wines."

Expect to learn a lot, try many unique wines and meet some new friends who like to share.

Andrea Larson: "This is my trusted wine case. I bring it every time. With my glasses and with my extra bottles of wine."

Here's to great food and wine all the time!

At the best cellar, there are two tastings at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., and it costs $15.
