WSVN -- You've heard of a nail tech. Well, how is this for nail tech-nology? The new Nailbar in Midtown Miami is about as hi-tech as it gets, starting with these chair pods.
Christine Joseph, NailBar, Owner: "When we went to Europe and we took a flight on Virgin Airlines, and they have those pod-like chairs and you get in and you're snuggled in there, and you're in your own little world. That's the concept we wanted to keep."
The futuristic chairs have surround sound and are stocked with the newest techie toys.
Rene Joseph, NailBar, Owner: "Every one of the chairs has an iPad, so it keeps you up to date. You don't have to read outdated magazines."
If you're a music lover, you get an mp3 player loaded with tons of tunes.
Christine: "Over a thousand songs-- from Elton John to Beyonce."
It's like getting a mani-pedi at a Mac store but more relaxing.
Nancy DeMarchi, Customer: "It's absolutely amazing. From the moment you come in and you have champagne handed to you, and I'm able to charge my iPhone, I feel like I'm in a different world, a relaxing one."
Even better, all their nail polish is organic. You simply go in and pick out your color from these jars of paint.
Christine Joseph: "This wall is to represent all the nail colors we have. So, you can look at the wall and decide which color you want to wear, and we can match it."
Most important, their pedicure tubs have disposable liners.
Rene Joseph: "So, after every use, the liner gets thrown out, and you don't have to worry about any infections."
At salons like Avant-Garde in Coral Gables, get a new nail treatment to help your manicure last longer.
Hilda Norona, Avant-Garde Salon & Spa: "Two weeks, it's amazing."
You heard her right, the new product called Shellac is supposed to last at least 10 days without any chipping or smudging. Here's how it works. It's painted on just like nail polish.
Hilda Norona: "It's the ease of applying it like a regular nail polish with the strength of a gel."
After each color coat is painted on, nails are baked briefly under ultraviolet light, and as soon as your mani is over, you're ready to go!
Hilda Norona: "You wipe it, you're dry, no more extra waiting. No more, 'Oops, I made a mistake.'"
Darby Plummer, Client: "Here I am, well into two and half weeks. There's not a chip, they haven't broken."
A great way to nail down a long-lasting manicure.
The shellac is an extra $25 on top of your manicure.
