Birthing Experience

Posted: Updated:

WSVN -- Corinne Becker, Mind, Body Fitness Specialist: "You're going to take in more oxygen, more energy, right? Could you use a little more energy?"

Kerone and Nicole know how hard it is to keep up your energy when pregnant. Kerone is expecting her third child. Nicole, her second.

Kerone Peters: "I'm expecting a girl. I'm excited."

Corinne Becker: "Feel that stretch, feel your body and breathe."

But this time around, these moms are trying prenatal yoga at Memorial Hospital Miramar. The idea is to make it a memorable experience for the whole family.

Sylvia Jones, Nurse Manager, Mother & Baby Unit: "We try to find a way to support the families, not just the moms and the dads but the entire family through this process."

The program includes a variety of services, including classes on how to prepare the entire family for the new addition.

Sylvia Jones: "We have classes, everything from breast-feeding to sibling classes if this is not their first baby, so we want to get the entire family involved."

Prenatal yoga is offered to help mom focus on her body and connect with her baby.

Corinne Becker: "It's important for them to remember to take time for themself, to nurture mother and baby themselves."

Nicole says, it's helped her relax.

Nicole Beauregard: "Before you go to bed, try and relax. Do the exercises. So it's been really nice, especially running after my 15-month-old."

And Kerone, who plans on natural childbirth, believes doing yoga will help her during delivery.

Kerone Peters: "It takes your mind off of everything stressful and really just helps you to focus more on birthing."

Sylvia Jones: "Chocolate chip or white macadamia?"

Man: "White macadamia."

Family members are treated to fresh-baked cookies, also giving them a time to socialize with other families going through a similar experience.

Sylvia Jones: "I think the thing going out the door is that this experience for them is very special."

Lynn Martinez: "All the services are included in the program, and new moms get four free sessions of postnatal yoga to enjoy with their babies."
