WSVN -- Victoria and Pete have lots of toys, and they're growing like weeds. Mom Charlotte wanted to recycle some of their gently used items.

Charlotte Mineo: "It's a great way for people that have lots of toys to create a little more space in their rooms."

She found a way with a website called Freepeats.

Angie Wynn: "Freepeats is a service that connects parents who have baby care, maternity stuff to giveaway with other parents who need it."

It's kind of an Internet thrift store. Atlanta mom Angie Wynn came up with idea in 2007.

Angie Wynn: "New parents quickly realize that you have all this pricey baby stuff that you only use for three months and there's plenty of life left in it, and what do you do with it when you're done? There was a need to create a service to match those parents up with other parents who need the items."

For a one-time fee of $4.95 you can join the Freepeats site then post items that you want to get rid of under offers or make a wish list of items you need. Parents trade their items, and the best part, no money ever changes hands.

Freepeats has groups in 54 cities around the country, and it's growing.

Charlotte Mineo: "I've been a member now for a couple of months. Miami market's only been open for a little while, but I've heard about markets all around the US and just sounded like a great thing, kind of like Craig's List for free, so I thought I'd give it a try."

Nicole Karni is another new Freepeats member. She likes the idea of trading items instead of dropping big bucks, especially in today's economy.

Nicole Karni: "You don't need to buy everything brand new. I think there's nothing wrong with having something that's not new, and I think people are starting to realize that."

Today, Nicole is offering up her old digital camera and a brand new walker that her son Simon never used.

For members looking for deals, it's all there for the taking.

Charlotte Mineo: "There are big items on there, things you wouldn't believe, like cribs, bedding sets, things like that usually cost you a couple of hundred dollars. All you have to do is look around."

Here's more good news, Freepeats is offering free memberships in South Florida for one week beginning today. Now that's a deal.
