Fitness Craze

Posted: Updated:

WSVN -- Instructor: "We're going to start with the tilt. We start side tilt and take it to the other side."

What you're watching may look easy, but this workout is a lot of work.

The fitness craze first swept across Europe before recently landing here in South Florida.

Rob Herzog, Memorial Hospital West Fitness & Rehab Center: "It's called the VIPR, and it stands for Vitality, Performance and Reconditioning."

Fitness Expert Rob Herzog says the VIPR may just look like a rubber tube, but he calls it an evolution in fitness.

Rob Herzog: "It's a simple design, it's a simple piece of equipment, but it's how you use it."

Instructor: "I want to see that rotation from the upper body, from the waist up. Good."

Rob says what makes the VIPR such an effective training tool is that it focuses on the way the body naturally moves.

Rob Herzog: "We're able to put together an exercise program where you're using your whole body all the time."

So he says the VIPR workout not only burns calories, it increases flexibility and strength, works your core muscles and makes your body work in a coordinated way.

Rob Herzog: "Your nerves are firing, your muscles are firing, your balance is in play."

Instructor: "Upper cut, upper cut using upper body rotation from the waist."

Alexander calls the VIPR workout challenging, because it targets his weak areas.

Alexander Mejia, Loves VIPR Workout: "I'm already using it on areas I felt I needed to improve on, like balance, coordination."

Debra likes that it's a concentrated workout.

Debra Austin, Loves VIPR Workout: "I get in 20 minutes with the VIPR sometimes what I can get with 45 minutes to 60 minutes with another exercise."

Rob says because the VIPR comes in varying weights, from six to 45 pounds, anyone can do it.

Rob Herzog: "You can be a beginner or you can be a professional athlete."

And with over 9,000 exercises using this one piece of equipment, your workout will never become boring.

Debra Austin: "It's just fun."

Diana Diaz: "Rob says soon, the VIPR will be used for physical therapy patients as well."
