WSVN -- Maria Andrews works hard to stay in shape.
Maria Andrews: "I'm very active. I usually will run, bike or swim everyday."
But that active lifestyle has taken a toll on her face.
Maria Andrews: "I've been doing triathlons for 12 plus years. It definitely causes you to lose volume in your face. You get that sunken-in look in your cheek area."
Amy Mangialetto was just beginning to see the first signs of aging.
Amy Mangialetto: "I would say the biggest thing that struck me, and that I've noticed over the years, was the brow. My brow lines, the nasolabial fold lines."
She felt too young to go under the knife for a facelift.
Amy Mangialetto: "Honestly, at my age, surgery was not a route that I was really ready to go down. I wanted something natural."
Both women jumped at the chance to have what's called a liquid facelift.
Dr. Carlos Wolf, Facial Plastic Surgeon: "What the liquid facelift does is allows physicians to enhance patients without surgery."
Instead of a scalpel, Dr. Carlos Wolf uses a combination of injections at the same time to give patients a more youthful face.
Dr. Carlos Wolf: "You can do it in probably 30 minutes to an hour. Oftentimes much less than 30 minutes because not everybody needs every aspect of the liquid facelift."
Dr. Wolf first uses fillers like Restylane, Perlane or Juvederm to plump up areas of the face where you've lost volume, then Botox or Dysport to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles.
Often, a product like Sculptra is injected for facial contouring. It helps patients re-grow their own collagen.
Dr. Carlos Wolf: "Over the next two to three weeks, your body makes collagen and it fills it in."
The benefits of a liquid facelift over a surgical facelift: the cost is much less and there's no downtime.
Dr. Carlos Wolf: "You could have the injection and really be out the next day. With a facelift, you're talking about eight to 10 days of recovery."
The downsides: results are temporary. The total effects usually wear off within six to nine months, and it's not a replacement for someone who really needs surgery.
Amy had the liquid facelift a few weeks ago and loves her new look.
Amy Mangialetto: "I would say the comments that everyone gave to me after was that I looked refreshed."
Maria just had the procedure and is hopeful the liquid lift will give her the rejuvenation she wants.
Dr. Carlos Wolf: "Now she's got contour. Youth is contour."
Maria Andrews: "I'm excited. I love it. I think it looks great. This procedure definitely filled out the cheeks and brings a more youthful appearance to your whole face."
Diana Diaz: "The liquid lift can cost anywhere from $2500 to $3000. A surgical facelift can cost around $6,000."
