WSVN — If there's an emergency the first thing you want to do is make sure your loved ones are safe.

"Life360" lets you set up a private network with family and friends all over the country. So if there's a tornado, earthquake or other emergency, a click of the button lets everyone know where you are and if you're OK.

There's also a panic alert to tell if you're in trouble. The download is free, but on demand location service is $4.99 per month.

Everyone knows it's not safe to text and drive. "iText Safely" is a tool to keep you from giving in to texting temptation on the road.

Touch to activate when you get behind the wheel and all incoming texts will be held until you turn the app off. Those who sent texts will get an auto response telling them you're driving and you'll respond later. Parents are also notified when the app is turned on so they'll never worry about their teens texting and driving again.

Walking and texting can also be dangerous, but if you refuse to put the phone down this next app is for you. "Walk n Type" makes your phone background see-through for safer texting the app uses a live feed from your phone's camera to help you see where you're going.

All you have to do is type your message over the moving image and send via e-mail or SMS change the color of text for better viewing in different types of light, keeping those who text on the run from having a mishap.

Craig Stevens: "All of today's downloads are free.
