Crawford an emerging gem for No. 7 Miami

AP Sports Writer

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) - The best news for Miami's football program this season was seeing the NCAA probe and years of uncertainty finally coming to an end this week.

The second-best development might be the play of running back Dallas Crawford.

He was a high school quarterback, played defensive back on the scout team in his first collegiate season and then got shifted to running back. And Crawford has been vital to seventh-ranked Miami's success, with two touchdowns in each of the team's last four games and nine overall this season for the unbeaten Hurricanes.

Crawford was an afterthought of sorts coming into the year, with so much attention on starting running back Duke Johnson. Now teams like Wake Forest, Miami's opponent this Saturday, have two runners to worry about.
