2013

Posted: Updated:

Another busy year for Howard and Patrick, meeting viewers and helping solve problems. Here is a Look back at the things they were able to do in 2013.

WSVN -- We first met Francesca when she was 5 years old. Her mother had called us because her daughter had received too many toys at her birthday party.

Francesca gave her 20 gifts to Big Mama to help needy kids, and it didn't stop there.

Francesca's mother Rosemarie Seguin: "It has become a tradition. It's our great pleasure to do that and help the children."

Francesca has been giving her birthday gifts away for five years. She is still adorable, still has a big heart and is even wiser.

Francesca Seguin: "Some people don't just get the chance to have gifts and to have a fun time, and I wanted to provide that."

Once again this December, all Francesca's presents went to Big Mama.

Big Mama: "She is beautiful, and I love that, and you can learn a lot from the children."

A little girl we have seen growing up, and growing even more generous.

Francesca Seguin: "It makes me feel very happy."

Francesca helps kids, this year it took a lot of adults to help Linda Joyner.

Linda Joyner: "I am desperate... I don't know what to do."

For over a year Linda had no way to get out of her apartment. Finally we were able to get several groups together to pay for a ramp and install it. Hallandale Beach still hasn't given the ramp final approval, but in the meantime, Linda is loving it.

Linda Joyner: "Thank you, Help Me Howard. I mean, my God, if anybody could do miracles it's you guys."

Remember Wyman Gresham, a great guy who bought Sean John cologne from a discount store.

The store had sold fake cologne, and when I talked to the president of Sean John he felt so bad for Wyman, he sent him a Sean John suit, ties, shoes and perfume for Wyman's wife.

Wyman Gresham: "Thank you so much Help Me Howard."

Howard: "And if we don't get it fixed my whole swimming pool is going to crack."

Speaking of great people, this Howard and his wife were slipping in the canal behind their house because there was no seawall. For eight years Howard battled to get the problem corrected.

Howard: "I couldn't get no kind of progress or no kind of movement until I called Help Me Howard."

The City of Lauderdale Lakes has installed a wall. Howard is happy, we are happy.

Howard: "Now I can put my little yacht out there in the water and my wife, she can fish from the bank."

Remember the wedding planner that sent an e-mail claiming her daughter had died, as the reason for not delivering the flowers for Alejandra Apraez's wedding.

Alejandra Apraez: "I planned everything around those flowers."

Her cousin Angela contacted us when she saw the same wedding planner advertising on websites. We confronted Carolina Diaz.

Diaz told us her daughter had not died but claimed someone hacked into her account and sent the e-mail making that claim. She promised to return the $1,000 she owed Alejandra. She did bring in $500 and promised the other 500 a week later, she never showed up.

We began with a child, so let's end with another precious girl.

Ezabella Blood: "How come the rest of my friends don't have braces, and I do?"

Ezabella has cerebral palsy. We met her this year as her father tried to get Medicaid to pay for an operation in Missouri with Dr. T.S. Park who has operated on 2,500 children, allowing many of them to walk normally.

Ezabella Blood's father: "It could change her life, it could be a huge turnaround for her."

Medicaid wanted the surgery done with doctors in South Florida, who don't specialize in children with cerebral palsy. Then Ezabella got lucky, a surgeon who does the procedure just like Dr. Park does, joined Joe DiMaggio hospital. In February, Ezabella had the surgery, therapy began and so did her new life.

Ezabella Blood: "I just want to get better."

Ezabella is now walking without braces. She will need a lot of therapy, but hopefully one day will run with her friends, who she wanted to send a message.

Ezabella Blood: "Thank you for being nice to me and helping me."

A little angel who can now beat that terrible disease.

Last March, an afternoon out with friends ended in a barrage of bullets for a pregnant Miami Gardens mother. As Patrick Fraser tells us on tonight's Out for Justice, detectives made an arrest in the case last week, but their work is far from over, and they need your help to bring in the rest of the killers.

Retired Canadian Benoit Lessard loved to spend winters in South Florida, but as Patrick Fraser tells us on tonight's Out for Justice, a man with a gun turned his retirement heaven into hell. Fifteen years later, police are still trying to solve this cold case.

Annette Anderson was a 69-year-old minister. TJ Walker was her 20-year-old grandson who had come to live with her while he went to school. And then, evil came through their door. As Patrick Fraser tells us on tonight's Out for Justice, one arrest has been made, and with your help, there could be more to come.

In Italy this week, the captain of the Costa Concordia began pre-trial hearings he hopes will convince a judge that the deadly shipwreck was an accident and not a crime. Earlier this year, investigative reporter Carmel Cafiero traveled to Italy for an exclusive interview with Captain Schettino and now has a special assignment report on what he will be telling the court.

There is very little that will match a bride's wedding day -- a day, months, even years in the planning -- and one South Florida woman's wedding was ruined when the florist didn't show up. Why? A death ... but was there a death? Tonight, investigative reporter Patrick Fraser has the amazing story in a report we call "Till Death Do Us Part."

It's what some people dream about: finding an envelope filled with money. One South Florida woman did find it in a parking lot, but she wasn't dreaming of riches. She was determined to find the owner. She couldn't, so she called Help Me Howard with Patrick Fraser.

In 1999, she was a teenager who had a car accident. A judge hit her with a judgment to pay for the other drivers medical bills. For 15 years off and on she has paid that judgment and today found out she owes more than the original debt, even though she has paid nearly the amount owed. Is that legal? It's why she called Help Me Howard with Patrick Fraser.
