WSVN — Martin Amado: “It seems we all have a need for a dedicated work space at home. The challenge is how to make it compliment your decor.”

Martin Amado: “Well, on today’s Room for Improvement, I’m going to show you how to create the perfect home office that balances style with function.”

Martin Amado: “When creating a work space at home, what’s the first thing we need? A desk, right?”

Martin Amado: “Well, I’m going to show you how we can take a standard piece of furniture that we find in a living room and give it a different twist. I’ll be right back.”

Martin Amado: “all right, so this is a console table and I know what you’re saying, ‘Martin, it is way too small, you have this crack in the center, I can’t write on the surface’, but stay with me folks. I promise I’m going to make it work.”

Martin Amado: “And here’s the solution. I chose this console table because we have enough leg room underneath. By placing a glass on top that’s wider than the actual base, we also gain additional work surface. Love it.”

Martin Amado: “The glass top was custom cut for only $80.”

Martin Amado: “Typically homeowners hang all of their frames, whether they’re diplomas or family photos, flat up against the wall.”

Martin Amado: “But by using floating ledges, you can actually turn them into a beautiful gallery display.”

Martin Amado: “Keeping your desk surface free of clutter is essential in a home office. So, invest in beautiful file folders and decorative boxes to keep you organized.”

Martin Amado: “A lamp is also a great addition to this desk area.”

Martin Amado: “To make this space even more multi-functional, you can add an oversized accent chair and create a cozy reading nook.”

Martin Amado: “All right, we’re done! Just kidding! You don’t think I would leave this big space empty would you? It’s our focal point. Let’s get the final touch.”

Martin Amado: “By adding this beautiful mirror above the desk, It enhances the entire home setting for our mini office.”

Martin Amado: “If you’re looking for a space to pay your bills, check the Internet or for your kids to do their homework, now you know how to create the perfect work station that still fits in with your home’s decor when not in use. For 7News, I’m Martin Amado.”
