Heavy fog limits visibility throughout So. Fla.

Posted: Updated:

FORT LAUDERDALE-HOLLYWOOD INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, Fla. (WSVN) -- Dense fog rolling in across Miami-Dade and Broward County caused problems for many motorists and even pilots, Friday morning.

Shortly before 5:45 a.m., the National Weather Service issued a dense fog advisory for most of South Florida that remained in effect until 9 a.m.

Drivers were advised to leave plenty of room between vehicles and to use low-beam headlights while driving through the fog.

The fog was so dense it even caused problems for incoming flights. According to officials at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, five flights were diverted to other airports in Florida. Among those flights were three from Spirit Airlines and two from JetBlue. Those flights have since landed in South Florida.

7News viewers sent in pictures of the thick fog in Weston showing the limited visibility on the roads, and in Downtown Miami the skyline was blanketed in fog.

The fog has since dissipated.
