New app calls doctor straight to your hotel room

Posted: Updated:

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) -- No one likes being sick, especially while on vacation, but new technology is now helping travelers see a doctor without leaving the comfort of their hotel room.

Tourists from all around the world come to South Florida for the beautiful beaches and perfect weather. And now a new app, exclusive to South Florida hotels, is adding to the area's first class hospitality.

AM/PM SKYdoc® is the latest app launching in South Beach that brings a doctor and a hotel guest face to face in a matter of minutes. "When a guest is sick and they are traveling, they're afraid," said CEO of AM/PM SKYdoc® Dr. Ramsey H. Saffouri. "They're far away from home, and they need someone to talk to. This application puts them face to face with a doctor of their choice."

So far, 160 hotels in South Florida will have access to the program, and it is even covered by health insurance.

If you're a guest at one of the participating hotels, and you start not too feel well, all you have to do is sign into the AM/PM SKYdoc® app, and once you register, a doctor will show up at your hotel door within 30 minutes. "If the guests needs ... a doctor comes to the room, provides the medications, has them delivered, because they are on vacation, they're on business, so if we can fit into that model and make their lives easier and provide a very compassionate model, they will be in love with it," said Saffouri.

The president of the Greater Miami Beach Area Hotel Association, Wendy Kallergis, said 75 percent of South Florida visitors are in town on vacation, and this new amenity will give people another reason to come back. "Anything that we do to make the guests' experience fabulous is just going to increase our business," said Kallergis.

The technology is launching exclusively in South Florida at hotels like the Delano in South Beach before it goes into use worldwide. "Time is what is valuable to people, more than anything else, so our customers and guests are exceptionally excited by it," said J.P. Oliver with the Delano Hotel.

By March, tourists will be catered with medical care that will continue to keep South Florida as one of the top tourist capitals in the world.
