Car strikes apartment complex in West Miami-Dade

Posted: Updated:

WEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Two people have been extricated and transported to the hospital in unknown condition after the vehicle they were traveling in crashed into an apartment complex in West Miami-Dade, Thursday afternoon.

According to officials, at around 2:30 p.m., the car struck the side of the apartment complex, located in the area of 100 Fontainebleau Boulevard in West Miami-Dade.

Moraima Santos, who lives at the apartment with five others, rushed outside once they heard a loud bang. Her son Alex Jimenez said he heard "loud noises" and he immediately thought about "life or death." Jimenez said, "I panicked, and I started screaming."

Santos said they found the Jaguar in the backyard of the apartment. "When I looked up, the car was coming in and just flying in," said Santos. "I grabbed the phone, I called 911, and I was there on the phone with them the whole time."

She said first responders had to break the car's front windshield to pull out the two victims.

No one inside the apartment unit was injured. However, the two victims were transported to Kendall Regional. Their conditions remain unknown.

Officials continue to investigate the cause of the accident.
