Armed robber poses as UPS delivery man

Posted: Updated:

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) -- Authorities are searching for a man accused of trying to rob a woman by posing as a UPS delivery man.

On Feb. 27, shortly before 2 p.m., 65-year-old Marie Jean-Pierre said a man claiming to be a UPS delivery person knocked on her door and told her he had a package that she needed to sign for. When she grabbed the clipboard to sign, the man pulled out a gun. "He took a gun," said Jean-Pierre.

Jean-Pierre said she shoved the man away and began to scream for help outside. "I was saying, 'Help, Help, Hep!'"

As the man ran to his car, he noticed a neighbor had come out to see what was happening. He then attacked the neighbor, 44-year-old Claudia Kretzer, and stole her phone before he fled. "So I'm here, and I'm holding my phone open, and he saw that my phone was open because I was trying to take a picture," said Kretzer. "He was grabbing me, and I was grabbing the phone, and we were fighting for it."

Deputies said the man dropped two packages in Jean-Pierre's yard as he fled. The first box was empty and the second contained eight zip ties and a roll of duct tape.

The subject is described as a white male, possibly Hispanic and in his 20s. He was last seen wearing a white sweater, khaki pants and a colored bandana on his head. He was driving a gray Dodge Charger.

Jean-Pierre is glad no one was hurt. "I was quite lucky ... I pray, I pray all the time to Jesus. I'm by myself in here," she said.

If you have any information on the whereabouts of this man, call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a reward.
