Laser Wolf

Posted: Updated:

Local musicians are ducking into a Fort Lauderdale bar these days for more than a cold beer. Laser Wolf is partnering with performers to spread the word about the SoFlo music scene. The joint is serving up sweet sounds and cold rounds, and the buzz about their record label is just beginning.

Laser Wolf is the little bar that could tucked away off the beaten path in Fort Lauderdale. The place is anything but a Las Olas hot spot, and that's exactly the way the owners want it.

Chris Bellus: "My brother and I are both natives. Grew up in Florida. Wanted a cool neighborhood bar that wasn't a sports bar, wasn't you know something rowdy. Didn't have a theme necessarily."

If you're looking for a cosmo or a mojito, you won't find it here. But if a tasty brew is your thing, you've come to the right place.

Chris Bellus: "Craft beer only. we don't sell any macro stuff."

It'll take you a while to check out all the beers the bar offers.

Chris Bellus: "It varies every week but iId say 80 to 100 between bottles cans drafts and everything."

If there's one thing Chris loves as much as lager, it's the music being made by local bands.

He wanted to get their work out there hence the birth of Laser Wolf Records.

Chris Bellus: "Something I've always wanted to do. There's a lot of great musicians that come from South Florida you know, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Pompano, everywhere and having a bar we get access to a lot of those people."

The maiden act on the label is the Death Jam Posse, three rappers who came together to record "Death Wolf" a throwback to the booty-shaking sound of Miami Bass.

The boys know how lucky they are to partner-up with the bar.

Young Lauderdale: "So it's amazing that they would put up the money and give us the opportunity to make this video, and release this vinyl where there's nobody around Fort Lauderdale, throwing money at young start-up Miami bass groups."

The posse is on a mission to remind you of the glory days of Miami Bass.

Swap: "The Bass scene used to be huge we used to be worldwide and we see how people love when we play it we're just trying to bring it back."

Death Jam Posse is proud to represent the 954 but you gotta work it, too.

Mr. Belvedere: "And really what we're making is party music so it's not for one particular person it's not it's just for anybody who wants to come out and have fun, and dance, and like have a good time and sweat."

I'll never forget the endless summers I spent on the coast of North Carolina. My shoulders were always kissed by the sun, my hair was continually salty from the ocean and my one-piece, bright blue bathing suit was my constant companion.

I don't remember dying, but I did. Twice. It was a chilly Fall morning in October at a dentist's office in Santa Fe. My mom had escorted me to what was supposed to be a regular wisdom teeth extraction appointment.
