FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) -- A special event was held on Tuesday night to honor the spirit of humanity in South Florida.

Habitat Broward honored those whose contributions have helped low-income families finance, build and move into affordable homes. 7News anchor Diana Diaz emceed the event.

Publix and Wells Fargo were honored. Each has donated over $800,000 to the charity. "I'm just blessed to work for a company that gives back to the community," said Gary Correll, director of merchandising at Publix. "Habitat has been a part of it for many, many years."

Joe Atkinson, Wells Fargo's regional president for South Florida, said, "Our goal is to be able to help people, to be able to reach that dream of owning a home."

Burdette Beckmann Inc. has also donated assorted foods, which are sold at the Habitat ReStore. "I'm just grateful to be on board. It's a great charity. It's been a charity that's been very important to our family and our company," said Burdette Beckmann's Robert Taylor.

WSVN Executive Vice-President and General Manger Robert Leider and owner Ed Ansin were on hand to celebrate with winners.

WSVN is proud to be a longtime supporter and sponsor of Habitat for Humanity.

You can work up a great big hunger when you're an action hero, especially if you're playing a guy who's half man, half god. Dwyane "The Rock" Johnson gets really hungry in his latest movie, "Hercules." Our So-Flo homeboy had to stay pretty jacked for the role. That meant watching his diet, but when it was finally time to let loose, he knew just where to go.
