MIAMI (WSVN) -- A teen was targeted by a group of gunmen and shot at after they attempted to steal his vehicle.

A South Florida high school senior, 18-year-old Christian Aguilar, was the victim of a carjacking, early Wednesday morning. "The victim did in fact get shot," Miami-Dade Police Detective Elena Hernandez said.

According to investigators, Aguilar had just parked his vehicle in his driveway at Southwest 123rd Court in Southwest Miami-Dade when he was approached by three armed males demanding his car. "The subjects demanded that the victim exit the vehicle. At some point, the subjects were able to open the vehicle doors and tried pulling the victim out of his own car," said Hernandez.

Aguilar had his seatbelt on, and according to detectives, it is unclear why one of the men shot into the teenager's car three times, once striking the teen at his side. The subjects then fled in an unknown direction without the vehicle.

A picture of Aguilar in his hospital bed was posted to the teen's Twitter account.

The senior from Ferguson Senior High is also just on the verge of beginning his college career at Florida International University. "It was kinda scary because, you know, that can happen at any moment," one student said.

The victim was transported to Kendall Regional Trauma Center. Investigators are hoping to speak with Aguilar soon.

Police believe the suspects escaped in a Toyota, possibly gold in color.

If you have any information on this shooting, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a reward.
