Law enforcement agencies train for disasters on Miami Beach

Posted: Updated:

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) -- Several agencies participated in a training day for potential disasters on Miami Beach, Wednesday.

Explosions, gunshots and smoke could be heard and seen on the scene in the parking lot behind Miami Beach City Hall, located on 19th Street and Meridian Avenue.

Over 300 responders from Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties participated in the training drill.

The drill was the largest of its kind in South Florida since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. The drill was established post 9/11 to ensure that law enforcement officials are adequately trained to respond to disastrous situations.

Some of the drill activities included an active shooter situation and a hazardous material situation, all of which are intended to prepare law enforcement for the "what if" scenarios.

"We work together, we plan together and we train together so that we can respond together. This is a combination of a lot of that training and what goes on behind the scenes," said Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue Mike Jachles.

Law enforcement, rescue personnel and emergency vehicles were on the scene. Should residents notice the intense activities, officials want to remind them that it is only a drill and that nobody should be worried.

Kindness and charm, unlike the people that live in Sin City, and i'm not talking about Vegas either. Things have changed in the town of Sin as in the motion picture while others have stayed the same. The cast of the movie told Deco what's new in part two.?

This year's Miami Spice could use a phone book just to list the restaurants taking part, more than a hundred. Which means filling up on three courses for only $39 bucks. And at some places, that means saving a whole lot of money.
