Pricey stolen Italian lamp recovered

Posted: Updated:

MIAMI (WSVN) -- An Italian lamp valued at $450 was recovered days after it was stolen from ARE Lighting, a lighting store in Miami that sells high-end European lamps.

Last Friday, Feb. 28, surveillance video caught a shoplifter in the act at the store, located on Southwest Eighth Street and First Avenue.

New surveillance video showed a woman walking in and returning the lamp to the store on Friday. "She handed the lamp back and said, 'Here you go, somebody is sending this to you," Gustavo Tello, the store owner, said.

Gustavo Tello, the owner of the store is satisfied with the outcome. "I think the main reason why this happened is that, of course, if you're being seen or a relative is being seen on 7 News Channel doing a felony, if you're a local person, well, you want to do the right thing. So, I want to thank her and 7 News Channel, of course, because if it wasn't for the interview and the report, I don't think this would have made it back to the store," said Tello.

There is no word yet if the woman who returned the lamp had anything to do with the theft. "As soon as the person returned the lamp, I of course, first of all, called the police," Tello said.

Tello is just happy the lamp was returned. "It happened, they returned it, and we're just happy that the situation happened the way it did," he said.
