Loud engines and burning rubber filled the air at the speedway once again as the renown Homestead-Miami Speedway played host to the Miami Historics.

Rather than using the famous 1.5 mile oval, several races took place on the more challenging 15 turn, 2.2 mile traditional road course. Races included the Trans Am Race Series, as well as the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association's Sprint and Hawk Performance Endurance races.

“While it will be fantastic racing, the stars of this event are the cars," said President of Homestead-Miami Speedway Matthew Becherer.  "You’ll see everything from Mustangs, Camaros and Corvettes racing against Ferraris, BMWs and Porsches. The cars competing throughout the weekend will include legendary classic makes to well-known contemporary brands.”

Saturday began with practice for various race groups, followed by qualifying and 10 different group races. Many may consider the main events to have taken place Sunday, as four more SVRA races and the Trans Am Series race closed out the weekend.

Joel Orbis, a native from Miami, considers himself an avid race fan and enjoys the fast paced cars over America's past time.

"It means a lot. Instead of going to a baseball game, now I have one of my favorite sports that I can come to almost every weekend, I'm hoping," Orbis said. "About three weeks ago I was at another race here at Homestead, so I'm hoping there's more races that are here at Homestead. I hope they bring Indy back too."

For race fans, the surname Andretti is as common as the dollar bill and has been linked to racing for years. Andretti can be seen all throughout the racing history books and now Trans Am can be added to the list.

Adam Andretti, younger brother of veteran NASCAR driver John Andretti and nephew to Indianapolis 500 winner Mario Andretti, returned to Miami as a Trans Am driver and 29 years after an Andretti took the wheel under Trans Am.

"Anytime you're racing in the Miami market it's a positive," Andretti said. "This is a huge market. They're crazy about their racing and that's one of the joys of being here, you get a lot of people here to observe, a lot of interest in it. South Florida, especially coming from Indianapolis, in the wintertime is not a bad place to be but Homestead-Miami Speedway is kinda special to me no matter what. I really enjoy the racetrack.

Andretti joined the TA2 class in 2013 in the #44 ECC Motorsports/Anchor Bolt and Screw Chevrolet Camaro.

As names go, Andretti has grown comparisons to other members in his family but does not necessarily feel the pressure, rather it comes from those competing against him on race day.

"We're competitive in the family but in a fun, playful matter," Andretti said. "As far as more pressure, everyone of these 20 guys that took a green flag today put enough pressure on themselves. It doesn't matter what your last name is, as a driver, you put your own pressure on yourself to go out there and perform."

Homestead-Miami also made history in several ways this weekend, as it was the first of three new sites that were added to the SVRA's 2014 calendar.

"We're excited to be visiting Homestead-Miami Speedway for the first time in 2014,” said SVRA President and CEO Tony Parella. “I’m sure the South Florida race fans will enjoy the three days of action packed racing featuring cars from the 1950s to the present, as well as the chance to get up close and personal with the cars and drivers."

SVRA racing tailors to all type of race fans, from the lovers of the classics such as MGs, Triumphs, BMWs, Allards, Jaguars and Lotuses to the contemporary models including Camaros, Audis, Porches and Corvettes.

Despite visiting various locations throughout the year for races, Trans Am's appearance in Homestead-Miami was its first since 1998.

“Trans Am is excited to return to Homestead-Miami and even more excited to re-introduce Trans Am to fans of the Series who call the Miami area home,” said Trans Am Race Company President John Clagett. “We’ll have a full complement of contemporary motorsport on display for them, from the iconic ‘TA’ cars they know and love, to the ongoing pony wars between the Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang in TA2 and the performance sports cars of TA3."

Sometimes, love can be hard to find in South Florida. The same can't be said for burgers, though. Tasty patties are everywhere. A new joint is offering up a unique take on this favorite comfort food. It's fresh, healthy and tastes like nothing you've tried before. Welcome to Burger Love.
