Body discovered in warehouse fire

Posted: Updated:

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) -- Broward Sheriff's Office homicide detectives, Crime Scene Units and firefighters are investigating after finding a body in a South Florida warehouse.

The fire broke out just before 4:45 a.m. Tuesday near Spirit Auto Brokers at 650 N.E. 27 St. in Pompano Beach. The Broward Sheriff's Office identified the victim as 53-year-old Robert Posley.

"The fire was called in by someone who was passing through the area and noticed that there was a fire, they called 911 and then we were able to get here quickly and put the fire out before any of the adjoining warehouses... caught fire," said BSO spokesperson Gina Carter.

Those who knew the victim said he worked and lived in the warehouse. "He had a little scooter and he drove around the neighborhood," said John Waldo.

"He was a real nice guy... I feel bad for him," said another man who knew Posley. "Washing cars and helping people around."

It is unclear how the fire started. The contents of the warehouse remain a charred mess and officials continue to remove several items of debris from the warehouse as they investigate whether the fire was accidental or if there was foul play involved.

People in the warehouse district remembered Posley as a hard worker who rode his scooter and loved to help people.

"He helped us out with everything, anything we needed help with," said co-worker and friend Steve Joseph. "He's a real good guy. Loved his scooter, always smiling, help you with anything."

"He's a super, super nice guy," said Waldo. "He came and visited every morning."

"A real good person, I mean, I wish everybody could have met him and know what kind of person he was," Joseph said.

The structure has been deemed unsafe. The neighboring warehouses were not affected.

If you have any information on this warehouse fire, call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
