Nina Compton

Posted: Updated:

When it comes to shoes I know my stuff. And when it comes to food I know mine. One of my hometown favorite chefs was on top of a reality show and now she's showing Deco that reality is real one bite at a time.

Chef Nina Compton's career is on fire. If she looks familiar that means either you're a fan of Bravo's Top Chef or you're fan of Scarpetta at the Fontainebleau or if you are like me both

Nina Compton: "I have become very familiar in the local community because I did Top Chef season 11. I was a finalist I came in second."

Nina is the chef de cuisine at Scarpetta, but her dishes made mouths water on Top Chef.

Nina Compton: "It was fun. It's the real deal you are cooking in front of cameras and it's live. And when time starts time really starts."

If Nina's food made you hungry, you're in luck. For the month of March Scarpetta is offering a Top Chef tasting menu. For $125 a person, a minimum of two people at each table can order the six dishes tasting menu.

Nina Compton: "With all the buzz going on and people asking me I want to taste this food. It only made sense to do a Top Chef menu so people can have an insight of what I was doing on the show."

Start with marinaded wahoo that got rave reviews in the seafood challenge. Move on to the lamb belly from the musical chairs quick fire. Then you get to taste the orecchiette with goat from the finale.

Nina Compton: "The entire season Tom was like, 'I want to taste the goat, I want to taste goat.' And I was like trying to make this goat dish for him and finale when I made it for him he was blown away."

After the oreccheittie move on to the trout that was inspired by Emeril Lagasse's BBQ shrimp. Then on to coffee rubbed ribeye from the dunkin donuts quick fire. And don't forget dessert.

Nina Compton: "Then we go into the infamous zeppoli, which was very controversial in the finale."

Nina could have picked any of her hit dishes and there were lots but she picked ones that would win over both Top Chef and Scarpetta fans.

Nina Compton: "I wanted to make a progressive menu that was for the Italian theme as well and people could enjoy it."

Nina may have come in second place on the show, but she was a fan favorite and her Top Chef menu is a winner in SoFlo.

Nina Compton: "I think it's a fun way to go through my journey."

I'll never forget the endless summers I spent on the coast of North Carolina. My shoulders were always kissed by the sun, my hair was continually salty from the ocean and my one-piece, bright blue bathing suit was my constant companion.

The last time I had on a pair of overalls, I was miles from civilization with a whip in my hand, an hysterical co-worker by my side and five angry cowboys staring me down.

I don't remember dying, but I did. Twice. It was a chilly Fall morning in October at a dentist's office in Santa Fe. My mom had escorted me to what was supposed to be a regular wisdom teeth extraction appointment.
