Donna Karan

Posted: Updated:

Donna Karan brought a little bohemian flair to South Beach last night. The designer hosted a runway show at the SLS Hotel featuring her new 2014 spring line. I caught up with the timeless fashionista to talk new trends and how to be happy and fabulous in the skin you're in.

When it comes to a soft and sexy womanly look:

Donna Karan: "Knowing your body is the most important thing and obviously people in Miami know their body."

Designer Donna Karan has mastered it.

Donna Karan: "People really love living here, I know a lot of people that have moved here."

Shireen: "They get paid in sunshine. I love it here, I'd never leave."

Donna Karan: "I love the sunshine, but I'm afraid if i had the sunshine I wouldn't work."

The fabulous fashionista hosted a runway show at the SLS Hotel where she featured her 2014 spring line which is all about...

Donna Karan: "Indigos and the sand and prints that I had done in India, which are all hand blocked, leather. Great big hat, love the hat."

The line is a mix of beautiful boho meets hippie chic. I caught up with Donna before the show at Saks Fifth Avenue in Bal Harbour at her new style shop.

Shireen: "What is the best fashion advice you've ever gotten, that you have remembered through the years?"

Donna Karan: "Your scarf is your best friend. It accents your positive and deletes your negative."

She also thinks you should be one with the garment whatever that may be.

Donna Karan: "And also, your shoulders never gain weight. It's the only place on your body I guarantee you will never get wrinkled and you will never gain weight on."

Donna has remained relevant in the crowded field of fashion by sticking with what she knows.

Donna Karan: "You can never have enough skinny pants, you can never have enough scarfs, cover up the top the way you want to cover it up. I wouldn't wear short dresses, if you don't look good in short dresses I find that very upsetting, and being comfortable in flat shoes, if your shoes hurt, don't wear them."

Guilty as charged.

Donna Karan: "Most people go to these events and they're wearing these amazing shoes and you see them walking out, ahhhh, they can't even walk."

Donna doesn't have that problem and her new collection doesn't either.

After all these years, Donna knows comfortable and classy best.

I'll never forget the endless summers I spent on the coast of North Carolina. My shoulders were always kissed by the sun, my hair was continually salty from the ocean and my one-piece, bright blue bathing suit was my constant companion.

The last time I had on a pair of overalls, I was miles from civilization with a whip in my hand, an hysterical co-worker by my side and five angry cowboys staring me down.

I don't remember dying, but I did. Twice. It was a chilly Fall morning in October at a dentist's office in Santa Fe. My mom had escorted me to what was supposed to be a regular wisdom teeth extraction appointment.

Sometimes, love can be hard to find in South Florida. The same can't be said for burgers, though. Tasty patties are everywhere. A new joint is offering up a unique take on this favorite comfort food. It's fresh, healthy and tastes like nothing you've tried before. Welcome to Burger Love.
