WSVN — Martin Amado: “If you’re looking for more ways to add organization in your bedroom, then today’s do-it-yourself project on Room for Improvement might be just what you’re looking for.”
Martin Amado: “Terri, a Channel 7 viewer, sent me an email asking for tips because she has lots of accessories including purses and jewelry and she doesn’t know what to do with it.”
Martin Amado: “Well Terri, if you have a closet door like this one, you can turn those pieces in to a beautiful display in your space. Let me show you how.”
Martin Amado: “Basic supplies that you need are gift wrapping paper, in your choice of patterns that match your room’s color scheme, spray glue, self adhesive hooks, a straight edge and a blade.”
Martin Amado: “This was only $2.99 which is a great price. And my tip is to look for gift wrapping paper with a heavy weight.”
Martin Amado: “I cut my paper a bit wider than the actual panel. I’m going to glue it down with my spray glue first and then simply cut off the excess using my blade.”
Martin Amado: “Make sure you tape off the outside areas to avoid over spraying of the glue.”
Martin Amado: “This gives you the look of wallpaper but it’s cheaper and less work. Now, we can really have fun by mixing up the patterns on the other two panels.”
Martin Amado: “If you start in the center and work your way out, you can push out any air bubbles.”
Martin Amado: “You can repeat this look going all the way across your closet or if you happen to have an extra set of doors in your house, you can separate them, lean it up against a wall and it becomes a beautiful art panel.”
Martin Amado: “Now, I’m just going to distress some of the edges so that it doesn’t look so brand new.”
Martin Amado: “OK. Now it has more of a vintage look that I like.”
Martin Amado: “Our project is almost done. Now, to turn this into a beautiful display for the accessories, we simply attach these adhesive hooks all along the front of the door.”
Martin Amado: “Who says you only have to use the inside of a closet for storage? Now, the doors work equally as well. Of course, we made it more feminine for our viewer Terri. But, you can apply the same idea for a boys room, maybe to hang baseball caps, belts, ribbons, you name it.
