Phillip Lim

Posted: Updated:

WSVN -- Phillip was in town to celebrate his shop-in-shop opening at Saks Fifth Avenue in Bal Harbour. They threw a big party for him on South Beach. I caught up with Mr. Lim, although he told me to call him Phillip, on South Beach for a little fashion talk.

Mannequin models, a mod band and the fashion man of the moment.

Designer Phillip Lim was the guest of honor at a styling party at the Raleigh Hotel on Sobe last night.

Shireen Sandoval: "What is the most surprising place that you get your inspiration from?"

Phillip Lim: "In an elevator. I was in a very old building, in the Design District once, and some of these buildings are so beautiful and they are like relics from the past. You look at the veining and the brass treatments, it became part of the trim in one of my collections."

The rock star of the fashion world was celebrating his shop-in-shop opening that's at Saks Fifth Avenue in Bal Harbour.

Shireen Sandoval: "How do you think social media has changed the face of fashion and how we look at it?"

Phillip Lim: "That's a hard one. It's made everything so immediate. It's interesting because when I started, it was an idea of where you were behind the scenes. Now with social media you have to be in front."

His 2014 spring and summer collections, seen at the party, are structured, bold and uniquely beautiful.

Shireen Sandoval: "We kind of have one season, but what kind of advice do you give us for dressing well all year long? We can't really wear heavy clothing."

Phillip Lim: "No, no, no. Just keep it light and easy. If it's winter, it's about color but still keep the materials light. That way you have a mood change through color only and it's still appropriate for the weather here."

Phillip designs for both men and women and he's the guy to go to if you want something edgy and different. And he's so good at it, he's become a household name.

Phillip Lim: "To be honest, I still get surprised when people come up to me and ask to take a picture."

We'll believe it and smile while you're at it.

You can check out Phillip's new shop at Saks Fifth Avenue in Bal Harbour.

If you love fashion, check out my fashion blog. It's called Shireen's Favorite Things and, well, it's pretty much about clothes and shoes. Lynn is my biggest fan.

Sometimes, love can be hard to find in South Florida. The same can't be said for burgers, though. Tasty patties are everywhere. A new joint is offering up a unique take on this favorite comfort food. It's fresh, healthy and tastes like nothing you've tried before. Welcome to Burger Love.
