Cuban Guys

Posted: Updated:

Miami is a melting pot of cultures and food from Mexican on Monday to Sushi on Saturday to get it yourself at my house, we found a spot where the food is fast and fresh.

Move over Calle Ocho and don't even think about going 90 miles south, Cuban Guys is bringing traditional favorites, but they put a spin on service.

Jorge Llapur: "Cuban Guys is a combination of the traditional flavor of Cuban food and the fast efficient style of the American fast casual industry."

At Cuban Guys you get your favs in a flash and they're just like abuela used to make them.

Jorge Llapur: "It's a fast casual Cuban flavor."

Anyone can enjoy their food.

Jorge Llapur: "Our spanish speaking population know our food. What we wanted to do in our concept is gear it to the non Hispanics so they can taste what our food is like, our menus are bilingual. Our staff is fully bilingual."

You walk up the counter, place your order and minutes later you've got Cuban food that's la family approved.

Jorge Llapur: "The recipes are traditional. Some are secret recipes from our families. Some are ones the chefs have worked."

From Media Noche that's the midnight sandwich to the plantatin chips, it's all fresh and sometimes they'll brand the bun for you.

Jorge Llapur: "Our most popular items are the Cuban frita, which is a burger like sandwich and we have the world famous Cuban sandwich that everyone knows."

Forget potato sticks from a can the spuds are shredded, fried and put on top of sandwiches and Cuban guys is mixing up their classics with the Cuban Bowl.

Jorge Llapur: "It's a bed of white rice, beans, sweet plantains, our shoe string fries and you can top it with traditional proteins."

They're even dishing out breakfast and dessert all hours of the day. At Cuban Guys you can stop by in a rush or stay and sit a while, but as long as you come hungry you'll leave happy and full.

Benny Fernandez: "If you want fast food at a Cuban place with good service and great food come here for sure."

When I got the assignment this week to do a story on VH1's new "Naked Dating" show for Deco Drive, I was beyond intrigued and not because I needed a date, either.

When I first heard that the Crop Top was back in style, I walked straight into my bedroom, stood in front of the mirror, lifted my shirt, turned to the side and stuck my gut out as far as it would go.

Mattie McDonald was one of the prettiest women I'd ever seen. She had light green eyes, dark brown hair and milky white skin. When she wafted by me, she smelled of lavender, honeysuckle and some other hypnotizing perfume I couldn't quite put my finger on. I spent a lot of my spare time daydreaming about her and not just because I wanted to know her. Ultimately, I wanted to be her.

There's a new restaurant that has everyone buzzing, and it's barely been open a month. Already, Drunken Dragon's packing them in night after night, offering authentic Korean barbecue right in the heart of South Beach. But where, exactly?

It's time to loosen your belt while tightening your wallet. Miami Spice is back from Aug. 1 though Sept. 30. This year, Spice is changing things and keeping it simple. Three courses, and it doesn't matter where you go; the prices don't change, $23 for lunch and $39 for dinner.
