Witnesses, mother take stand in former pastor molestation trial

Posted: Updated:

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) -- A former South Florida pastor charged with molestation teared up in court Monday as his mother and supporters took the stand in an attempt to clear his name.

Fifty-year-old Jefferey London is accused of sexually molesting more than eight boys over the course of 10 years. Monday, several witnesses said they never saw the pastor acting inappropriately with any of the alleged victims.

After a quick opening statement that lasted just over three minutes, the defense began calling up the list of character witnesses. Many of them said London cared for the boys who came to him for help and only tried to help them.

When asked if anyone called her asking about any inappropriate activity, London's mother, Clara London, said, "Never, never. No indication of anything going on in the house, never,"

According to the prosecution, Mario Francois spoke differently during his deposition. When he was asked if he had seen any boys under the covers with London, Francois said, yes.

Monday, Francois was asked about the deposition and if he was sticking to his response to if he saw any of the boys under the covers with London. "Yeah, we watched TV," he said. "No problem."

Courtney Brown also took the stand in London's defense and mentioned how London changed his life. He was asked if he had been sent to London to improve himself. Brown replied, "Yes, and it did."

Brown stayed in London's home sporadically for several years. As he continued to speak positively about his former mentor, the defendant began to cry. When asked if he had seen any sexual activity in the home, Brown responded, "Not at all."

Brown also went on to say that the alleged victims, who he knew very well, never said anything about any abuse. "Never once have anyone come and said that to me," he said.

Last week, Prosecutors said London sent explicit text messages to the boys. The defense tried to prove that London did not always have his phone in his possession.

Kadisha McKnight, who knows London, said she called London once or twice a week and at times another person would answer her calls.

London is expected to take the stand in his own defense Tuesday. If convicted, he faces life in prison.
